Hair LOSS and DAMAGE

Today, the environment plays a huge part in the health of your hair. Alot of people may not know this but hair shouldn't be exposed to water that is chlorinated and salty, such as, tap water, the water in swimming pools and sea water. Hair is a covering for the body or parts of it consisting of a dense growth of threadlike structures (as on the human head). It helps to prevent heat loss, each hair consists of layers of dead keratinized cells. Since hair is able to easily absorb moisture, it also takes in most chemicals dissolved in water and other liquid substances. So pure clean rain water and water from rivers and springs, is the healthiest type of water to wash your hair and or your body in. The sun also plays a huge part in hair damage, it burns the hair especially if there are many chemicals on the hair like, bleach(used for coloring).

Most people don't have the option to wash their hair in "natural" waters, especially in Chicago. The best thing to do after washing hair in tap water is to either rinse, with boiled water to burn all the chemicals from the tap water out or to use more natural herbal product on the hair like coconut oil. Many old school remedies help as well (hot oil treatments, and sitting under the dryer conditioner). Steam is healthy for the hair as well.

Unclean water is extremely harmful for the health of your scalp and locks. Regular exposure to chlorine can trigger accumulation of sebum, or natural scalp oil that nourishes and lubricates the hair shafts, inside your hair roots, causing clogging and possible inflammation(swelling and redness to the scalp).

It is believed that hair loss is strictly men’s problem. However, out of all the people that come across this trouble forty percent are women. We feel that is a normal thing to see a balding man, but with women it's a problem.

From the beginning of a person’s life, his or her hair grows, rests, and eventually falls out, being replaced by new strands. About 90% of all hair is in the growing phase, which takes between two to six years. Every month, hair grows approximately half an inch. After it reaches certain point, hair goes to resting phase where it prepares to be pushed out by a new strand coming from the same follicle. This period lasts for about two to three months.

Often times people uses different sprays and sheen's, oils and balms, conditioners to keep their hair healthy. Many of these products are designed for good purposes, but not all of them are healthy if applied too often or too much. While high-quality hair cosmetics provide good care, some of them can damage hair strands or lead to temporary hair loss.
